Jen studied Music Therapy at Radford University and received her Music Therapy degree in 1998. She became a Board-Certified Music Therapist in 1999.
She then went on to study Community Agency Counseling at Western Carolina University and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2006. Concurrently, Jen studied with the Mid-Atlantic Institute and became a Fellow with the Association of Music and Imagery.
She has a great deal of experience working in agency settings, most specifically crisis services, as well as experience in private practice. She has training in Music Therapy, the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music and she completed the Level 1 training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-centered psychotherapy to address issues surrounding traumatic events.
Passionate about finding new and effective means to assist and facilitate others on their healing journeys, Jen also began her study of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, founded by don Oscar Miro-Quesada starting in 2006. She has encountered numerous other teachers since embarking on this path, and has also worked with students who were apprenticing with the Eagle Condor Council, supporting them on their paths of self-exploration and growth.
"I don't know how to put the experience into words, but I can say that I felt at peace. It was as if the weight of the world had been lifted from shoulders. I felt lighter and free.
I cannot wait to share this experience with other family members when they visit Asheville. Now that I am at home, anytime I feel stressed or upset, I can actually sit and think about my mesa time and I can be at peace. It was wonderful." - KD
